First Portrait Since Moving to Digital! Thoughts?

I agree. The bokeh above her head is really distracting. I would crop it out. I also think she would have benefited from a longer focal length.

The bokeh itself looks just fine. The tree sticking out the top of her head is somewhat unpleasant however. I think the background, all in all, is just too busy. I'm not feeling the reasoning behind all the space to the left of the model, nor the landscape orientation even.

Would be interesting to compare this "first portrait since moving to digital" with your "last portrait since moving from film" I bet.

All duly noted! Thanks for the feedback. It was a real quick shot just to see how things came out. I can see now that she probably is too far off center, considering the background.

You're right about the "last portrait since moving from film" part. I don't have a good scan of the film shot to show right now. But it's same model (my wife, actually); it's vertical vs landscape, the background is consistent (although still plants) and she's composed closer to center frame but not directly. I'm realizing I might have been too eager with this one!

Just crop it a bit tighter. The landscape printation is okay here but there is a bit to much wasted space around.

I dont really like how you cut into her shoulder here. Looks off center.

Because of how far up her body the shot already is, cropping it any tighter down just sort of makes it look like a boring headshot. Shes stood in a forest so this may aswell be showcased, i like the exposure of the picture but heres my edit. (removed the nasty head tree)

I like the horizontal aspect of the portrait. Using a longer lens and separating her from the background even more would mean the focus doesn't stray from her at all but overall I like it a lot. I do agree that cropping in a bit more to remove some area above her head would make the image stronger.
