first posts, some random people shots

So just started posting here so I figured i'd include a couple of random people shots I have. CC 100% welcome.

1: a local artist wanted an album cover. he wanted a shoot at his workplace (a tire shop). although i didn't exactly get the shop aspect in this photo, it's my fav of the shoot. i'm not at all a studio/portrait shooter so the posing and lighting was new to me. I also didn't have any lighting at the time so we made due with the shop lights.


2. Shot from a NYE gig i did. I kind of liked the background action.


3. Another from the NYE event. I think the image quality was a little lacking but i liked the moment.


4. more of the style of shot that i like. non-standard portraits (no heads/faces etc.). not exactly a shot that pops for me, but i wanted to include this to get some feedback as to how i can make this type of thing work better for me.

C&C per req:

1. I think this image almost makes it, but for the expsoure issues. I like the composition with the way his hand/arm points at the woman behind and their heads form almost an 'X', but the light is in the wrong place. We should be looking at his face and NOT his shoulder. Borrom some lights if you don't have them now and try this gain. Some potential here.

2,3. To me, these two just scream "Facebook images shot with a cell-'phone".

4. If you'd left a little more room at the sides and corrected the WB issue, this wouldn't be a bad shot, but knowing what you're going for, I'm not sure the composition would work as well as it could since the heights of the two subjects are so different.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

in 1 the lighting was for the tattoo on his neck (that's what he's pointing to, and what she's looking at). i intended for his face to fade into the darkness on his right. I will say this though, i have no idea what the tattoo says and for the life of me couldn't figure it out in person either. so in that way it fails. i just assumed it was something relevant to the album (or at least i hoped so!). the X isn't something i thought about, i do agree that's part of what makes it work for me. thanks for the observation!

for 4 it does feels tight left and right. i think i cropped to cut something/someone out to the right, and the left just to keep it symmetrically tight. the WB was left as is because it was shot under orange streetlight perhaps i should have corrected it. since i was there and saw the actual conditions, i'm somewhat of biased towards real conditions vs what may actually look better. def not a perfect shot, but thanks for the comment about the composition. the height is something i will consider in the future for something like this.
