hey guys this is my first shot at photography, im using my first ever dslr a nikon D90 and a tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, aswell as lightroom 3. any feedback is greatly appreciated but go easy on me this is my first try! this is also my first try uploading pictures to the forum so hopefully that works.

Your first photo is not a good composition, there's way too much background, not enough subject, the colour is oversaturated but that could be what you were aiming for so fair enough. You've got a nice tight focus on the label in a shallow DOF. Just work on composition.

The second is cool, nice image maybe just a stop underexposed, you could push exposure up in lightroom but the shadows are clipped, I can only see the edited version mind so could be that original image has shadow detail still intact.

Welcome to the forum and Grats on the new toy.

The first has the most potential for me. Would have been better had it been taken in a bar and the background was filled with people sitting on bar stools and what not. You know where the background makes sense with the subject.

I am not even close to liking the second. My best advise for that one is if the image is bad don't go nuts editing to try to fix it. Just try again. Keep playing around, happy photoing.
