Managed to sneak in a little time today dodging the snowflakes and fire off a few quick test shots using The Stack.... my spiffy new Nikkor 200-500 with my 1.4 vII TC... on my D7100.

Not bad at all!

That expression seems to say that you should expect to find half a mouse under your pillow this evening!

Yeah, I don't think from the looks of it, that the cat is not nearly as impressed by your new lens as we are.:345:

She just wasn't happy there weren't any birds at the feeders.

that lens looks great

Cat is not amused.

Nice resolution! Would love to go birding with that rig.

The cat, on the other hand, would love to go birding without that rig...

Trust me. I will go birding with it.

Sans the fuzzbutt.

And I might even try autofocus. :bouncingsmileys:

do a with and without comparison. that looks a bit soft if you ask me.

so...
if you dont mind me asking...(and ill ask anyway)
what made you go with this lens over the tamron 150-600 or the sigma 150-600 sport?
was it the constant aperture?
sorry if i missed (and i obviously did) the probably dozen or so threads in which you have already fleshed out this decision.

As for image quality, it's (pardon the pun) a photo finish. But there's three things the Nikkor did better:
1. Autofocus latches on far better with the Nikkor.
2. Nikon's VR outshines the Tamron VC,
3. The Nikkor functions quite well with the 1.4 vII TC I already owned; The Tamron would not AF with it.

In short, I'm not getting better shots, but I'm increasing my keeper rate.

Managed to fire off a few at the neighbors' feeding station this afternoon

Its slightly soft, but at f/11 thats to be expected on a 24 Megapixel APS-C sensor.
