I'm a little nervous doing this, but I won't learn unless I get some feedback.

1. This picture was taken indoors. I've only had my camera for a couple of weeks, so I'm still learning. I'm trying to learn to use the camera and not rely on the auto setting. I had the camera in aperature priority.

2. This was a sculpture in front of the museum. I tried taking a bunch of different shots at different angles and I really liked this one. I think it might have looked better if I didn't cut off the sides.

C&C per req:

1. Neat idea here, and lots of potential. If you could, a flash at ground-level firing up to provide a little 'under-wing' fill would have helped. About the only real issue I see (assuming that the colours and WB are correct) is the blue area image right. I would crop that off.

2. This one would have worked much better if you could have gotten far enough back to include the whole thing. The cropped spirals on the sides really weaken the image. I also think a different time of day might have wokred to advantage. Notice the way so much of the spiral is dark/black? Some parts are shiny silver/gold with texture, and rather more interesting.

Don't hesitate to post images for critique. You might not always be told that they're as good as you thought or hoped they were, but you will usually get a pretty fair assessment. It will only help you improve.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

I'm confused, you don't want to "rely" on the manual setting? I think most people would say that the manual setting is something to strive for. Its much more difficult to capture a great shot in manual because the camera doesn't do anything for you. You have to choose your own shutter speed, ISO and aperture.

That said, the first shot is very grainy/noisy. This is most likely due to the ISO being at 5000. That is very high. I'd say, always try to shoot at the lowest possible ISO. Compositionally speaking, this shot really doesn't do anything for me. It is VERY busy. There is no one clear subject matter.

In the second photo, I wish you had zoomed out a little so as not to crop off the sides. There seems to be a lot of noise in the blackness.

Hope this helps you out a little!

Thank you for your input. I didn't notice the blue part in the picture. I'll try cropping it. I actually meant I don't want to rely on the auto setting. :)

you have a very creative eye. I am by no means an expert but I like what I see.
