First time shooting a person C&C

I have just recently picked up the hobby, still brand new at it with little to no experience, but I read a lot and have been practicing a good bit, mostly cars and landscapes though, I talked my girlfriend into stopping on the way back from lunch the other day to let me try to get some quick pics of her. C&C please.

the first 4 have some serious distortion issues that just don't seem to work for me.
Your exposures look good, skin colors are great, focus is good.
The last two are OK. They have some background issues with distractions in there. Make sure to watch your background clutter.
The last one looks like you used some flash. It's not bad flash at all, just a bit heavy and could use a little dial back.

Thanks, I actually went for the distortion in the first 4, got the idea from another post on here and wanted to try it out. The last two were more portrait shots with my 50mm and I did use my pop up flash, I still need to invest in a speedlight.

I think the distortion on the first one would be OK if you had made sure the widest part was more to the center of her face. As it is it accentuates the forehead. Whereas I think if you had more balance between the eyes and the chin-which is a major part of this subject-it would have worked well.
The others just give her a big head and little bitty body. They are definitely useful for playing and learning how to manipulate and use the distortion to your advantage. Which makes them well worth the mistakes here!

There are no "mistakes" in photography MLeek...but only shots that turn out less-than-optimally...

I really like #1. Trust MLeek and Derrel to give you the straight talk about technique but I think #1 is a fun, funky picture that really works on a number of levels.
