Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Flickr requests that a photo links back to their site when you post on another website and they provide HTML code to do so. It works fine on another site that I use but not here. All I have to do for the other site is to copy and paste the code and the photo shows up but when I do that here, all I get is the code. Ex:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/fromthebackofahorse/2898230061/" title="Color Ride Sept2008 by FromtheBackofaHorse, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3228/2898230061_0fa2f7e79e_b.jpg" width="1024" height="921" alt="Color Ride Sept2008" /></a>

What in the world am I doing wrong??

Just copy the address and paste it into the pop up box after you hit the little "add image" icon above that looks like mountains, yellow sky with a sun on it.

the reason that code will not work here is because they do not allow html on this board

Just do:

This way, you are not directly linking your file (and using Flickr as a straight photo dump) and it satsifies the "Please link back to Flickr" message they have on the website.

How do you figure that? It doesn't link...

I use this http://www.byroniverse.com/flickr_me.php
Some guy made a page that translates the html to BBCode. Copy/paste the flickr html into that page, click the translate button, copy/paste the new bbcode into the reply window here and the image links back if you click it.

This is the button for inserting an image into a post:
insertimage.gif

This is the button for creating a link in a post:
createlink.gif

Now, if you truely want to link your image back to flickr, this is what you do. go to the image you want on your flickr page. Select an appropriate size after going to "All Sizes", I try never to post more than 600 pixels on the long size, perhaps 800 is ok as well. A 1024 image will be too large for many to view.

After you have navigated to the image and size that you want, you have 2 things you will be needing to copy and paste, the url in the address bar and the option 2, "Grab the Photo's URL" box.

Click on the yellow ICON in the create post window that I've shown above. This will insert the picture into the post with image tags. In the popup window that results from clicking the ICON, paste the text you copied in the option 2 "Grab the Photo's URL".

Now you will see the image tags and the url you posted in where you are typing your post. Highlight that entire line from the [ img] to the [ /img]. It is possible that instead of seeing the "[ img]photo[ /img] you instead see the actual picture. Just highlight the picture instead. Click on the 2nd ICON I show above, which is the "create link" icon. It is the little world with the infinity symbol (I think that's what it is...). In the popup you get from this, copy and paste the URL from the address bar of the flickr page. You can go back a page or so to copy the URL from the original image view on Flickr.

That will get you an inserted image that is a link that goes back to Flickr.

Example.....

Step 1: Click the insert image button:
insertimage.gif

Step 2: In popup box I copy and paste option 2: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2424745011_9d5a85af98.jpg
Step 3: Click the link button:
createlink.gif

Step 4: In popup box, I copy the URL of the root image page from Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mrodg88/2424745011/

The result:

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Very much appreciated.

This is what I do. Easiest way to do it, since you're still just copy/pasting except you get to type
.
That still does not give you the "link back to flickr" in the image. Per the end user agreement of Flickr, your image posted must be that a viewer can click on the image and it directs you to the Flickr website or I suppose providing a link below the image would also be sufficient.

Described in the quote above, all this is doing is manually inserting the image with the tags same as if you would have clicked on the yellow ICON in my previous post. It does not create a link that goes back to Flickr.

Either using the html code provided by Flickr (which doesn't work with many forums) or going through the process that I laid out is the only way to do it, unless you use an external site to convert the html as has been mentioned earlier I think.

This site parses HTML, and going back in to edit it was a pain and I didn't want to do it, but if the OP hooever over the words, he would see the link, or stated again:

{url="location of image"}{img}http://poop.jpg{/img}{/url}

Easy breezy.
