Flutter Here, Flutter There

Nice set, I like #3 the best. Those little suckers are hard to get sharp focus on, aren't they? I have a Hedgcoe project coming up on them where I only take pics of them from unusual angles, DOF and focus priority. Half part Kodak Ektar film, other half digital.

@jcdeboever Thanks JC. Yes they didn't sit still very long, nor cooperate in any way!!! I was trying to remember some of the things you discussed in your previous posts.

You did fantastic bud. I really like them.

Thanks JC. Up until this trip I haven't really used the 50-200. Don't think that will be the case going forward

Ooo.. very nice. I like the third the best.

Good ones. I have never yet got these right. I use a 90mm macro lens which allows getting pretty close and blur the background. But then I don't get any depth to the focus like your #1. #2 & #3 are the only way I can get them in focus. Yours came out well.

@Rick50 I was trying to stay closer to 200mm and use the aperture and distance to regulate the depth of field. I was shooting for about +/- 2", but the little buggers were constantly on the move. It would have helped if I could have used a tripod, or I was more steady.

I'm afraid I'll be the party pooper...but all of the shots are out of focus.
#2 and #3 are close but not perfect and I'd wish I'd have more "space" in front of the butterflys to get them out of the center of the picture. (I'd have placed them in the lower right corner)
#1 is not even close to a sharp picture. The Bokeh would be ok but the plants in the foreground are disturbing. Again there's to much free space under the butterfly that does no good to the photo.

Sorry if that "sounds" a little hard :icon_redface:

The 3rd shot is my fav, mainly because I love the contrast between the black and the yellow of the butterfly. I love insects and cannot wait until I can snap them with my 55-300 in spring/summer in Scotland.

@Tigershark Everyone is entitled to their opinion right or wrong. As I recall I made some of the same comments a few days ago on one of your postings. Obviously we have differences in opinions.
