Hey guys. I just realized there's a glaring gap in my camera knowledge that I'd like to remedy.

1) what are cross-type focus points and what purpose do they serve?

And 2). Why are more focus points (51 vs 39) better?

What’s the difference between cross-type autofocus points vs regular ones?

More specifically cross type sensors can detect contrast vertically and horizontally vs just just one direction for non-cross points.
