Theres an old abandoned farm style barn kinda building that has a great amount of wear on it, and the sun hit's it perfectly during the golden hours. I can see the shots i want to take when looking at the building, in my head it's such a perfect spot for exactly what i want to do. The problem is, I'm kind of new to the area and i don't have anyone i know well enough to bring over there and shoot. Im ASSUMING that this building will be around for a while, but i have no idea to tell for sure. I'll be really upset if i wait too long and never get a chance to shoot there. What should i do?

Let me add, I don't have much experience with shooting people. I really only shoot for myself, Im not trying to be a pro or get paid or anything, Maybe one day when i feel my photos are worth charging for i will, but i really just want to shoot people. Thanks for any advice. I love this place!

I'd go and shoot with no people as well. I'm guessing there are lots of subjects in there that don't require people. Look at some of these (janok is another member here) for some inspiration. These are tone mapped, though. Do you have a tripod?

Those shots are beautiful. I don't have a tripod, i have a monopod but i have yet to invest in a tripod. It's on the list tho. I think i will go and shoot anyway tho, probably on the way home from work today.

get a tripod and take pictures of yourself. Problem solved. No tripod yet, sit the camera on a box. A sturdy box.

The one person you really need to find is the owner of the property. That way, you can at least ask for permission to be on the property so you can take all these wonderful shots.

Just ask some strangers on the street. I'm sure they won't mind meeting you at an old abandoned barn....

sign up on modelmayhem, or just look through it tons of emails they will all do shoots. I also post on craigslist and usually get about one set of photos a day, but I'm pretty picky as I don't want to have to photoshop weight and facial features after. Or if you are really desperate there is always some crack head around who loves to be photographed. I was waiting for a girl last night and one came up to me and was like take my picture this will be really cool trust me I'm an artist. He then takes his bike and puts it up in a tree and kind of stares at it... actually I'll throw it up on flickr quick to back up the story...

Ha ha there he is, just find someone like this guy... You may have a problem controlling the shoot but it won't be a boring shoot.

My sentiments exactly. Ask for permission and shoot away, who needs people.

You guys are too cautious, up around me you go anywhere you want and just don't shoot or drive ATVs and snow mobiles on private property without asking. Even if you break the rules then it's a slap on the wrist. You're shooting pictures, not bullets.

oh come on bent, down by the mexican border I would believe it but definetely not in IN, you'll have to show me the article of the guy who got shot for being on private property

The OP may be armed with a camera, but the property owner may have something just a wee bit more substantial to shoot with.
