Taking the wife to the eye doctor now for new contact lenses, and when we get back she will look over the thread and see what she thinks. Hopefully, if she sees someone she thinks should get it, we can make a final decision.

you can buy them online or call 1800 contacts I think and buy a six month supply and save yourself some money.

I had a long list of Optometry puns that Eye was going to pack into a cleverly worded paragraph, but I'm no longer able to enVision it. Also, people might Lash out at me for my lack of Foresight in the matter, and I would hate to make a Spectacle of myself. Besides, it probably wouldn't be very hum-Iris anyways. As it stands, I will sit sit here quietly and keep my Eyes Peeled for your decision to see which Pupil you choose out of the Cornea-copea of entries to gift this Lens.

To be honest, there are a few people I was kinda expecting to show up here that have not....but it could be that they have already gotten better glass.
Or, maybe this lens isn't as nice a donation as I had originally envisioned it to be in my minds eye.

Either way, I'll see what the wife thinks when we get home and she can see again.

It's a great lens and an awesome donation. I think perhaps there are just some who are hesitant to put in for these things. As Straw mentioned initially, he wasn't going to ask for it, because he sees others as "more deserving" of it, and I think many of us tend to think that way.

Still, anyone who needs this and HASN'T put in their "bid" for it is just going to miss out! Someone is really going to get a nice piece of glass!!

Shoot, *I'd* put in for it, because that 35-50mm focal range in a f/2.8 is something I'm missing, but I refuse to take any further advantage of your generosity; I'd much rather see others get some of this great stuff too! Plus, while I don't have anything in that range, I *do* have a lot of glass right now; more than I probably need, and I also know I'll have the ability down the road to pick up something in this range. Probably after the first of the year.

I think you are right! I know there have been a few giveaways in the past I refrained from entering because I felt like someone needed it more, or I was too new to the forum to "deserve" winning. Even this time around I hesitated, but this peice of glass at this point in time was irresistible! A dream really, imho.

Yeah, I did end up throwing my hat into the ring because I see the value of awesome glass in that focal range, and it would do me a world of good.

The only reason I can think of would be that many of the folks here might either have that focal range covered with fast glass, or they don't have a body with in internal focus motor. Outside of those two things I can't imagine why anyone would pass on the chance for this one. Its age is completely irrelevent.

I thought I would give it a shot, even though I am a Canon user. I could get an adaptor, all I shoot with is manual focus anyway.


If you don't think there is enough interest let the thread sit a few weeks, and then give it a "bump" for round two!

I too have been the recipient of and surprised by your impressive generosity in the past, so I also feel hesitant to take advantage of it by greedily asking for things, especially when I think there are others who need it more than I do.

In this particular case, I have no way of even using this lovely lens so it would have been silly of me to put my name in for consideration.

But I always enjoy watching these threads because they make me feel good. I don't have to be the recipient of the physical object in order to benefit from the spirit of the generosity and of the gratitude shown by all.

Most know of my arm issues, thankfully, I have been doing some stuff behind the scenes so to speak to work on getting better. I would love this lens and it would give it a great home. Portrait is something I'm working on very hard. It's not a strong point of mine but I've been reading posts and trying to learn.

I surely hope my last lens listed doesn't disqualify me, but you can tell I have an obsession for fast glass and my last one does not fit in that category. I've always wanted to try a push pull and I've heard some great things about this lens, but no way I can afford a 24-70 2.8 and probably never will.

I feel this lens should flourish on a full frame body and would love to be able to add this as my carry around lens instead of 3 primes everywhere I go lol

Well, the committee is now out of session, and a concensus has officially been reached.
The decisions for these donations are always tough. Especially when it seems that there are no bad choices, and every option sees the lens to a good home.

Still, a decision has been made, and the lens is packed up and ready to be shipped to its new home.

Well damn. Spent too much time ranting. I'm on shift today and we just got a call so I'll have to finish the announcement up afterwards.
