Full Frame Cropping

I was at a high school football game the other day and a man walked through with my exact same rig (D7K, Simga HSMII 70-200 2.8). I asked him what he thought of it, and he told me he also had a D700 but preferred the weight of the D7K, (and this is where I was struck) and he liked the crop factor on the D7K for football.

My question is: let's say I take the same exact photo with the D7K and the D700. If I crop the D700 1.5x (or whatever the going rate is now), is my image now identical to the D7K?

My idea is that perhaps any slight mis-focus would be more easily seen on the D700 when cropped and viewed at the same size, but even that doesn't make a lot of sense, since the only difference is that the photons on the outside few millimeters of the D7K frame just never hit the sensor.

Any pros have their take?

The short answer is no, you will lose resolution croping that much. Also, the compression rates and angles of view are different between crop and full frame sensors.

D700 12mp FX..... D300 12.3mp DX

Say you crop the D700 shot to match the DX frame, well now you have a 5.Xmp photo. A lot of Nature and sports shooters like the crop sensor bodies.

I should have added: If we are both compressing our photos down to 1MB, what advantage then does crop censor have?

MB is file size. MP is resolution.

Compression does not change the resolution, just the file size.
