I'm really interested in seeing how the Joe pye weed performs! I have three lined up in the side yard. They all look healthy but only one appears like it will bloom.

More plant ID help? This picture is from my mom's little back yard at her former condo. She doesn't recall the name of it.

That’s beautiful. iPhone app says Caryopteris aka Bluebeard. If you have an iPhone you swipe up halfway on the photo and then click on “plant” and it will give suggestions and similar web photos.

The Ivory Silk Lilac tree got planted yesterday. It’s basically a stick at this point but looks very healthy. I moved some pots around to fill in the empty space for this summer. Hopefully by next year it will start to branch out. Growth rate is 2’ per year which is pretty fast for a tree based on my limited experience. Didn’t plan it this way but next spring will have my two Kwanzan Cherry Blossom trees blooming in late April followed by the new flowering plum in early May then the lilac bush and magnolia tree in mid May and finally the lilac tree late May into June!

I was at Calloway's a week ago, looking for plants, and picked up a hibiscus for the patio. After looking at several different plants, I found one that had a butterfly sitting on it. The butterfly whispered, "This is the one..." so I bought it with no idea as to what color the flowers would be. The little critter even came home with me, and didn't fly off until I had unloaded the plant from the car. Here is the jewel it convinced me to buy.

Looks like the color I bought on Mother’s Day. Except it was my own princess who whispered “this is the one” …. The tag said it was a Paibted Lady.

That's it! I finally found a website that said Bluebeard, in addition to the proper botanical name. The second I said "Bluebeard" to my mom, her memory jarred her and she knew that was it.

She had a gorgeous specimen. Can't go back there now for photos, since she finally took the plunge and sold the place.

My little pal is hanging in there. He looks almost big enough to wander off to make his chrysalis. Only the one that hid in the parsley has survived. The others that were making a spectacle of themselves on the fennel were all eaten by wasps or lay bug larvae.

Mine has had enough and gone and buried itself. The Pentas should recover over the next couple of weeks.
