I know I did!

Just got back from the camera store, and brought home a new grippy fro my D7000.

It doesn't suck....... but paying for it did.

I have little gig tomorrow where I can try it out. I'm a wee bit excited to play with my new toy. :D

That is all.

Why didn't you buy me one while you were there?

j/k! I hope you enjoy it..... one is on my wish list.

If you have never had a grip before, it will spoil you. I hate shooting without one now.

It's on the wish list! Glass gets the priority, though. :)

had one on me Sxi but now I have a 7D big enough for my hands, but still missing the grip not the weight though.

I cannot wait until I get a grip for my camera. It as been on my wish list forever, I just don't have money for it yet. I take a lot of photos in the portrait position and it is a wrist killer turning my hand and holding a heavy camera. :)

what's the use of the grip?

Here are my reasons, in no particular order....

Adds a battery.... basically doubles the battery life, without having to stop and switch out bateries

Adds the ability to shoot in portrait orientation without having to hold the camera in an uncomfortable and awkward postiion. I've found myself shooting in portrait orientation much more often than not.... this will make my life much easier.

Adds weight to the bottom of the camera for stabilization, especially with heavier lenses.

Adds the ability to use AA batteries in the event that my proprietary batteries run dry on me during a shoot. Unlikely since 2 batteries for the D7000 will last about 20 hours and 3,000 shutter actuations, but if I don't have it I will eventually need it.

And by far the most important reason.......... People will look at me and say "Wow, he's got a really big camera........... I'd bet he's a perfeshanul! I bet his pictures are awesome, since he's got such a great camera. I'm going to hire him for my wedding."

Adding the extra piece to he bottom of any camera changes the feel and gives you more stability. Anyone that hasn't held a camera with a grip will be surprised at how comfortable it is, especially useful for anyone with larger hands.

I've seen several references to a grip being useful for those with larger hands, what about if your hands are small. Would it still be of benefit?

This is my question as well. I have been shooting a lot of portraits lately and it is seriously hard on my wrist trying to hold my body for hours at a time.

Take your camera into a shop and have them put it on. Once you pick it up and start using it you may find the ease/location of buttons etc.to your liking.

Shoot well, Joe

It adds some weight to the camera so if you already think your camera is too heavy, its probably not for you. It makes shooting vertical much much easier and makes your camera feel more robust. PLUS as stated, it allows two batteries as well as a cartridge that allows you to use AA batteries if your regular batteries run out. ( I believe the AA batteries will last typically about half as long as the normal camera batteries.

The downside, sometimes the camera will no longer fit in your camera backpack or bag depending on what you have. More weight hanging around your neck if using a neck strap.

There are several reasons a vertical grip is built into pro level cameras, and your issue is one of them.

The improvement to camera handeling and hand holding stability is alone worth having a vertical grip. Zeikos makes one for the D700.

I have tiny kindergartner sized hands. The smallest size "woman's" glove STILL doesn't fit me right. There's still a little bit of space between the tip of the finger of the glove and the tip of my actual finger. I just got a grip not too long ago and I love it... tiny hands and all :sillysmi:
