Getting it right

This is part of my neighborhood. Its taken w/a Sony A100. I plan on getting a filter, and taking it w/my D3200. Either a UV or an FLD. I may try to get this shot at sunset. I'm very new so any tips/thoughts/info would be helpful. I plan on blowing this up and hanging it up The things i dont like about this shot is how washed out the trees in the distance are.

Try this again at sunset with a longer exposure time.

The barn is all, "PEEKABOO!"

not sure why you'd think a UV and/or FLD filter would help you here. are you shooting film? and you are shooting film under florescent lights?

Well Amazon has a kit that has filters. It also has a picture with and w/o the filter. No truth to their cleaver advertising?

Not sure which ones you're talking about, but probably just clever advertising. You usually don't need filters unless you're doing something special, like using a circular polarizer or using a neutral density filter. Until you find a need for those, don't buy any. Basically stay away from UV filters; there may be a day when you want one, but you don't want to cheap out on them. You don't need an FLD filter, since you're shooting digital and can change the white balance on your computer or in your camera.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I think i'm going to buy the original kit lens, but i dont need to be buying stuff i dont need until i need it, and i'll want to buy a good quality one.

Exactly... if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, buy books on exposure, composition, lighting, etc.
