So often these pics come out too muddled, but the decks, the desk, the cables are quite steady, the lights above are fantastic, leaving the DJ only with the motion, as it should be!

Nice capture.

Oh, yeah! Kickin' shot. :D What they said above there.

Yea that's a dope shot! way to represent BC. I wanna put that on a shirt! Did u photoshop that at all?

edit: oh just noticed u said untouched! well that's even more impressive.

yea untouched from negative. Negative wasn't even brightened just turned out perfect. Lucky me :)

If you would like a high res copy for printing on a shirt I can e mail it to you if you like ;)

PS thanks for possitive feedback guys!

I dont mind constructive critisism and apreciate it too of course but I would like to thank you all for your kind words.

Great shot. My brother is a DJ, but I have never been brave enough to bring my camera to his gigs. Now I'm inspired to give it a try. The scene may have to be pretty particular. The turntable lighting is similar, but his effect lights are about 3 feet in front of him. I might be able to get him to acomadate me. Help

Lights were mostly above him in this shot. They didn't have too much extravagent lighting close to the dj in this case. How much influence does your brother have over set up? maybe they could make some space in front of him for you. For me it took about 4 or 5 shots to catch the right amount of motion out of him. ( I even have one where he left after I hit the start for the timer! DOH) One thing I wish I did was record film and shutter speed/aperature for each shot. That way its easy to see what went wrong with any shots that are overexposed etc.

Its also neat to get shots from behind him onto the croud. I took a couple of those but haven't uploaded them yet. Depending on the djs set up there might be lots of space without too much lighting back behind him.

Depending on what kind of lighting they have maybe ask if you can turn off any of the bright lights during a shot facing the crowds. Some of the photos I took from behind made the dance floor seems much brigther than it was due to the a spinning light that eventually by the time the shutter closed managed to just about cover the entire dance floor in bright light making it appear all lit up. Turning off that one light would have made a huge difference.

Also make sure you have a safe place to keep camera equipment and tripod. Because my friends were running the show I kept my gear in the concession tucked away and yet still someone managed to spill coke and splatter a bit onto my camera. At first I thought it was all cleaned off no problem and kept shooting without problems the rest of the night ( there wasn't much just a few drops ) but the next day when I went to turn my camera on the power button was sticky....grrr

Now I have to find a repair place that won't charge me extravagently.

Thanks for all the tips. I think I will be shooting tommorow night, with any kind of luck. I am not sure about bringing my tripod on the dance floor. Did you? I'm going to borrow a monster lens, just in case the joint is jump'n. Most shots will be with the trusty 35-17. In this location he is close to the balcony railing, so a "front" shot will be from the floor or standing on a speaker. The "behind" shot will be from the balcony toward the dance floor, which will work out well because there is not a lot of people. I will post the pics wednesday morning.

Awesome. yes man tripod is critical. Maybe you could take some shots early before there is too many people there. You will have to have a tripod though. Most people gave me lots of room on the dance floor because they are all about getting photos and video from the party's anyway. It only takes a couple minutes to try some shots and different angles.

Regardless I'd focus on taking photos from the rear. Take your time and be patient.
Good luck!
