There's a reason why it's free, babe.
This is largely why Linux is such an abysmal failure. It's great as a server OS but as an OS for a desktop it sucks badly due to a clunky interface and clunky software. The people that write it are doing their level best. I don't doubt that. It's just the complete lack of coordination and design that defeats all the freebie software. Somebody said a long time ago that Linux had a dozen tools that would do this bit well or that bit well but none that would do it all well. Windows has plenty decent ideas and some competant programmers and also some horrendously incompetant programmers. Try installing and uninstalling games on a PC and see how long it is before the PC goes belly-up. I used to write software. In the end I stopped writing full programs and wrote DLLs instead. Do you know I sold more DLLs than programs because there are more wannabe programmers out there than end users. It's scary! Anyway the point is that free stuff is only free because somebody on their own has written the software in order to try to attract the attention of the recruiters. It's not written with the end user in mind and is thus usually very poorly designed.
