For Portrait Photography, I cannot stress the need for a good Makeup Artist. I don't care how pretty your model is...a Good Makeup artist can make the difference between Great...and Whoa.

MUA's are great. So are not so grainy photos when trying to have smooth skin.

I like the #1 except for the brush. Don't know how good your PP skills are, but I have PS and, I change, delete or add in photos. I would clone the top of the brush and bring it lower down, then use clone and smudge to fill in where the brush tip was. Try changing the color of the gold part of the brush to make it less noticeable

as beautiful as these girls are with make up, It slightly irks me that you are implying a model can not look good in a photo without it? But then again professional photographers who have the budged or a free makeup artist is going to take advantage of that. (I mean hell I would) But, the photographer should be able to make the model look goregous, with or without make up. <3

Other then that, they are great shots , agree with the others though, wish the brush was lower.

You can only do so much w/o make-up before you resort to a) photoshop or b) a MUA. Having an MUA on set is part of the "getting it right in the camera first". It saves time in post on the back end. Saying a photographer should make her look gorgeous without make-up is a little bit of a blanket statement.

well yes there is only so much you can do without makeup but still, I like to think there are still photographers out there that do mostly natural beauty shots and even though the models arent plastered with makeup they still look beautiful and the photo looks amazing. But I do agree, having a MUA does give you more range for different styles and looks.

My PP skills are adequate. Sounds like way too much work to do for a candid shot though

It isn't always a one way street too One MUA who worked with me TF* in my early days managed to land a regular make up gig because I passed the word on to the right casting people.
True that having a team is for the pros but if you're doing shoot for submission to magazines, you can easily find a good team who wants to get their names published.
