I had a newborn shoot yesterday and I went to the clients house (whom assured me there would be plenty of light) ummm yeah not so much! Had to crank my ISO. Also baby was very jaundiced still... whattaya think???? Tips to improve the edit??

I think you've done an excellent job with the exposure and WB correction; the skin tone seems quite nice to me.

Agree with all above. Looks like the pants or shorts matched the hat, maybe I would like to have seen more of the matching outfit.

Just a tip: Never trust someone about the quantity or quality of light in their home/location. Unless they are a photog...they have no idea. Get a flash and learn how to use it.

I edited A LOT of the jaundice out, was hoping it wasn't starting to look too unatural. The pants don't actually match the hat at all hence just a HINT of the drawstring in the shot. Oh yes I need to LEARN to use my speedlight, I cannot get my head around all the settings! I'd probably shove it on TTL mode? (is that auto???) and point it to the ceiling with a diffuser on?.... I should have bought it along with me but I had trust in my d7000's ISO capabilities.

TTL mode is easy. You don't need to use a diffuser if you are bouncing it off the ceiling.

500 ISO isnt really "cranking it" on a D7000.

I like these. I also like that you shot at a little higher ISO rather than drop the aperture down to 1.8 or so and kill the DOF. (35mm prime used for these i assume?)
color and WB look pretty good, although you can see a definite lighting difference between the two. A bounced flash would have worked wonders for #1, and helped fill in #2 just a little.

overall, a nice set. The parents will be pleased.

I should post an image a bit later in the shoot when I had the ISO at 1000! Camera still copes pretty well.
