good beginner camera?

hi everyone,
I have just got into photography. I am currently taking a class and we use the Minolta X-700s and the Canon 10 and 20d cameras. I was thinking about purchasing an X-700 at my local pawnshop or ebay. My teacher recommended KEH.com. I was just wondering what are your opinions on a good beginner camera. The type of photos I plan to take are mostly of action sports.

I prefer film, but that's just me. It's up to you, good 35mm film cameras are much cheaper than good digital SLRs but film plus developing costs a lot.

when just starting out...go with film, make sure photography is something that you are passionate about, if it isnt....its a costly thing to get into to just drop a few years down the line. i would start with an older manual fim camera first, to understand the basics of what it is you are doing...then later down the road to improve efficiency, etc. go with the digital.
