Good lenses in this price range?

Buddy of mine wants to buy me a lens for my bday in like 2 months. His budge is $200-$300. What do you guys recommend? I see alot of sigma and tamron glass in that range

Perhaps you could determine what you want to focus your shooting on and figure this out based upon that? It's not rocket science, or anything anyone can direct you on better than yourself (assuming you know what all of the lens specs mean and how they relate to photography).
