GoPro vs iPhone

Although I've managed world-class photo shoots for products (I'm not the photographer) I don't have $ for that now. I need to do photo shoots at home. Have some interesting set ideas. And I understand lighting is everything.

So which could I survive, or prosper with if I was clever? The GoPro or iPhone? Just for still shots. I'll consider the video features of GoPro, later if necessary. I keep seeing good shots by ppl using the iPhone. Are they just lucky or can it be done consistently?

I don't think the gopro is really intended for the kind of use you intend. It's a great action camera mounted on helmets or where a standard camera cannot.

Cell phones can take fantastic pictures, given good lighting.

I have an iPhone, use a P&S in GoPro situations, dSLRs

The iPhone is great for a pocket ready to go at any situation camera. Though it is severely limited once you are also an experienced photographer. It doesn't compare at all to my dslr when I take photos in situations that are not ideal.

GoPro .. I put it on my mountain bike and take photos of trails

dslrs .. everthing that is not an ideal lighting scenario

If the question is just between those two I'd go with the iPhone also BUT, and it's a very loud BUT!, I'd say get a used Nikon D40 or D80 or Canon for cheap and you'll do better.

then it all depends upon LIGHT.

When I use mine indoors sometimes I use the flash which may make the photo look flat (though inexperienced people won't know). it may be noisy, blurry, etc ... it all depends upon how much light there is.
And the photos are good for uploading instantly to FB, Twitter etc. But nothing I would present for printing as compared to what could be done with a dslr, lighting equipment, etc.

An iPhone would probably work fine if as others have said you aren't worried about lighting. If it's a case of you need to purchase either an iPhone or a camera then I would go with an entry to mid level dslr which would give you more control over the settings and the lighting. You can get a decent one for about $500.

Which brand iPhone makes best pics? And regarding a used one, does the photo feature degrade after useage? And which model?

Wait. The iPhone is Apple. Are there better cells for my purpose?

Generally, the newer the cell phone, the better the operation/equipment.

I wouldn't purchase a phone if it's a camera that you want. Why not just get a camera? If you're wanting ease of use, there are plenty of point-and-shoot digital cameras that are cheaper than a smart phone.
