Both flashes listed in your signature support HSS so you have a setting incorrect somewhere.

Are you sure the yongnuo does? I think I may need to return it and buy the 568, which is probably what I read about before. Doh! I'm not seeing HSS anywhere in the features listed online for the 565.

Looking at the catch lights, you have your lights set up high camera left and low camera right. This is cross lighting your subject and although you have a lighting ratio from the Main to the Fill, this type of setup will generally give a flat lighting appearance. For small children, this is okay because generally it is a prefered look and drama should be held off, at least until puberty.

BTW, High Speed Sync would be of no benefit for this shot.

High sync speed wouldn't fix the bar of shadow that is in every photo? I am using the Yongnuo 622c triggers that say they sync to 1/8000 shutter speed. I wanted to test this feature, which is why I set the shutter speed so high in this photo. I just assumed I would need to turn the high sync speed on to take advantage of it. Please tell me if I'm wrong. I'm new to these triggers and using multiple flashes.

Ok...FYI HHS requires a TTL connection to the camera to get the shutter speed info from the camera. The Canon flash will work with the on-board flash commader (if your camera has one). I dont know if the Yongnuo will.
If you want to see the coolness of HHS. Have your son stand outside with the sun to his back and put the speed light on the hotshoe and take the shot with HSS on and goto like ISO400 in AP mode

I fixed the problem! My camera was set to fire hi-speed. I changed it to 1st Curtain and now it works flawlessly!

Learning how to deconstruct lighting setups is a valuable skillset. Since you are now into flash photography, I suggest this you try to do the same. It won't come immediately, but when you view photos you find pleasing, try to be cognizant of what the photographer has done to accomplish the end result, barring post production.
