What's new

Got me a new lens!! BoooYah!!

Well, Getting tired of slow consumer grade zoom lenses with fuzzy IQ, I have decided to fill my arsenal with better quality Primes. Today, I found an older Nikon 135mm f/2.8 AI at the local National Camera for a steal. (well, it was actually priced at market, but I will explain more later.)

So far, I'm thrilled with this lens in the very few test shots I have taken. Decent usable FL, tack ass sharp (when I hit my focus) and feels really solid.... not like todays plasticy lenses.

This is all thanks to the Local National Camera store. In August of last year, week after I bought my first DSLR, I decided that the best lens I could ever hope for would be a 55-200 AF-S VR. So I wne to National Camera and bought it (factory refurb marked at $169).......And it was. For about a month..... after that, it never hit my camera again. I have been kind of dreading the purchase of that lens ever since. I talked to the friendly sales guy at National Camera Exchange, and he offered to take the lens on return....... ALMOST 6 MONTHS LATER, for a very reasonable re-stocking fee. Granted the lens was in as-new shape, and I still had all the originals with it (box paperwork etc), but still! I ended up basically trading it even up for the 135mm 2.8 (tagged at $149). That's what I call customer service.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a hundred thousand pictures to take with a new lens. :D

I just bought a 135mm 2.8 as well!!! Mine is a Sears brand though. I am super excited to use it (comes in tomorrow). I bought that one and a Kiron 80-200 for $60 for the both of them on Ebay. I have seen photos on Flikr that were taken with these and cannot wait to get my hands on them tomorrow!!! Congrats on the new lens! If you don't already have one, I would STRONGLY recommend a 50mm 1.8. Brand spankin new they are less than $150 and are so sharp it will blow your mind. I love mine!

Good advice..... but I'm waaaaaaaaay ahead of you. That was the first "real" lens I bought. Best $125 I ever spent.

It's my next purchase, actually.. Getting pretty anxious about it! :D

Yay!!! That and the 18-105mm VR for the Nikon are the only two lenses that I think everyone NEEDS. Well that an the 70-200 2.8 but...lol. The first two are at least affordable! :)
