Hey, my name is Brandon and I have always loved taking pictures. I bought my 1st DSLR (a Canon Rebel XS) less than a year ago because I wanted a good camera to take photos of my son Carson, who is now 7 months old. I immediately fell in love with it! I did a little research and purchased a "Nifty Fifty" (the Canon 50mm f/1.8) and REALLY fell in love. I use my Nifty Fifty when doing portraits or in low light situations otherwise I usually use my kit lens (18-55mm).

I have done a few photoshoots but only with family. I even got asked to do a co-workers wedding which I knew was WAY over my head so I declined. But I would really like to do some photography for extra income and maybe eventually a career (fingers crossed). I just purchased Photoshop Elements 9 and am learning about a whole new world called post production. Looking forward to learning as much as I can from everyone!

Best advice I can give you from someone who was in your same exact position about 7 years ago, is to get the equipment you NEED and then STOP BUYING for a while! Biggest mistake an amatuer will make, is to think they need the newest camera cause it'll make their images better.

Now buying good, high quality glass is another story. Good lenses are timeless and are one of the true ways to get nicer photos by spending money. However when starting out, just get what you can afford and anything you can't....rent it!

Best thing is to get your head in some good photog books and learn. Then take what you learned and go out and practice those new techniques! There's things your camera can do that will amaze you, once you learn how!

So get out there and shoot!

Just joined from Georgia myself, what part? In the Atlanta area by chance? If so, check out PPR for rental gear - they've got a pretty nice selection, including some of the wild stuff.

I just joined from GA as well, Sandy Springs area! New to photography. I have had an intrest fo quite sometime but just made the leap from a P an S to a canon 7D...love it!!

Not to hijack his thread, but I'm just up the road in Roswell from you! That's a hell of a jump from P&S to 7D!
