This was the first time ever shooting in a very low light conditions. Also the is the first time I used a monopod. I have a lot to learn. I had the ISO up to 3200 but had a lot of noise but here I was able to get away with 800. Please let me know what you think and what I can do to get better.

80-200 mm f/2.8
Shot at 135 mm (35mm film equiv: 202mm)
Exposure: Manual exposure, 1/125 sec, f/2.8, ISO 800
Focus: At 12m

Exposure is fine, the background kills the photo, I know that gymnastics is difficult find really clean backgrounds, having to deal with a small space and all the other equipment that is being used. You may have also been limited as to where you could stand. It's not a bad shot.

Yeah, the exposure looks good. As imagemaker46 said, watch the backgrounds, and always be evaluating how your camera position/location is impacting the backgrounds you get. I'd say just keep on shooting, and trying to make the best compositions tat you can, given the gym, backgrounds, and all the various equipment and paraphernalia that accompanies a gymnastics meet. At the size shown, your camera's ISO 3200 exposures look pretty good, at least at web size.

Thanks for the replies. I was stuck at only one place in the gym at a high angle. I was alway photograph down towards the floor. Very hard to just get the competitors without any background distractions. I will keep going and try to make the best out each shoot. Thanks again for the replies.
