A sad comment on modern society; I was at a restaurant in Newfoundland a few weeks back, and a family of five (Mom, Dad, and kids from mid teens to 10ish) sat down. Mom and the three kids immediately got out their 'phones and started doing thumb-things with them... Dad just sat there and looked lost.

My boss's daughter is amazing with those things. She can hold a perfectly lucid conversation with someone, looking them straight in the eye the whole time, and send a text message with just one hand and without ever glancing at the phone. She did it to me once while talking to me and it's eerie. Amazing, but eerie. Her dad told me that one month she sent and received over 12,000 text messages.
