Hasselblad 1600f tested

I'm not thrilled with the processing or scanning, methinks. There's a blue hue to everything. BUT, the good news is film advances, lens is SHARP, and everything mechanical works. Here's some results, Hassie 1600f, Kodak Ektar 80mm f2.8, Kodak Ektar 100:

^That one's a little underexposed, but due to slow speed shutter issues (for those who don't know-1/10 through 1 second equals stuck shutter), that's the best it could do.

And that's a DOF test. Pretty impressed with this thing's capabilities overall despite the irregularities with the film. I'm also not really using it to its full potential or what it was designed for (landscapes and the like), so I'll have to try that kind of thing next. I'm gonna load it back up and try again this week.

The poor thing is going to hate me after a few weeks of abuse. But no, really, I'm probably going to wear this poor thing out. It's going to be the camera I use for my blog because it requires so much more thought and effort and that gives the images a little more meaning.

Nice! That ornament shot is beautiful. There's great depth in all the photos. It's definitely a keeper!

As for the blueish tint - that could be the scanning. I've done some rescans of a couple of pictures, with and without color correction settings, and it can make a difference. We were testing this on some Fuji Superia 400, which seems to need a bit of color correction to bring a bit more out of the colors.

Hmm. Maybe I'll get it rescanned to see what they can do.

The ornament shot does show off that amazing bokeh. I took another ornament shot with an extension tube that didn't scan well that has a DOF of about a hair or two. Sheesh. There's probably one little glitter flake in focus and the rest is blurred. Quite interesting. Incredible setup.

Now that I'm a Hasselblad user, does this mean people will throw money at me for my pictures?

i like the defocus character of the old Ektar! Looks pretty sweet! I pulled the shots into Lightroom just to mess around...the blueish cast in the scans was kinda' tricky, so I went with a sort of vintage, pseudo-arty-look. Whaddaya think? Okay? Average? Awful?

The Rollei edit is cool. The Hassie 500 edit doesn't really do much for me, but that image isn't overly interesting to begin with (was just testing things anyway). Now the ornament edit... THAT is fantastic. I LOVE the way that turned out. Those colors are awesome.

Thanks. I appreciate hearing that you like the ornament edit. And I agree, the edit of the Hassy was uninspired, but I dinked around with it and just could not make it sing so I kind of left it...hanging...it was a toughie. The ornament...I did "juice" the reds and the greens a bit...I honestly had no idea what the intent was on your part, but I knew the tree was a flocked white, so I went "warm" with it, and very "green" on that lovely jewelled bell.

Nice shots you got! I think it could be the scans... my scanner is quite determined when I've scanned B&W darkroom prints to add some RGB, I learned to check it and see if the scanned image shows in Photoshop a percentage of RGB... then I gotta set it back to Grayscale to print a copy. Of course I don't have a pro quality scanner but actually have had the same thing happen from a lab too. I haven't noticed color prints looking bluish but I wonder if it was partly your backgrounds being white (or off white?). Keep enjoying the camera!

In all honesty, it was really just trying to see what details of the ornament that lens would pick up, and to make a nice, festive decor type photo for my living room. If you click on the initial post to see the bigger version on Flickr, it comes to about life size on a 15.1" laptop monitor, actually. I'd say that lens VERY much succeeds.

I totally agree about the whole Hassie shot. It was rather uninspired on my part-I was left with an exposure and just threw that in there so I had an excuse to get the film developed.

Vintagesnaps: I'm going to enjoy this thing until the gears start falling out of it. By far my favorite camera.
