HDR craze....

CS3 supports the HDR file creation - so i hear......but is there a way to do this with other programs?!?! I have paintPro XI - and ill be danged if i can do it using that program. If its there, i have no clue how to do it... XII has it - i think. But my question is, is there a way to create this effect without having the HDR program on built in to your photo software?!?!
