Just to clarify Trev - are these headshots (portfolio use) or shots of heads? They all seem just a bit too hot on the skin tones, with #1 showing up wayyyy hot on my monitor.

^^^I feel this way too Trev. #2 is probably the best overall head shot but I like #3 as well.

Of the three, only #2 is decent but still over exposed. #1 is way too over exposed. #3, her shin is like a mannequin. No one has that flawless skin. Be careful about being too close, showing flaws in her make up

Bright yeah but not clipped. Headshots for port use. I like the light and airy feel but I could easily tone them down.

I cannot get past the weird lip liner on April's shot...that dark outline looks... ______. Hard to describe. I don't mind the light skin tones too much. It gives a very heavily airbrushy-like look that I think some people like, and that very light-light-light skin look might be better in appearance on one type of device than on others.

None of these are over exposed. Well let me clarify that, there is plenty of detail but yes, it's bright. All of them shot at 85mm and wide open F1.4 with exposure bias +.3-.7EV.

IDK, looks good on my calibrated IPS display and on my iPad4 but my eyes are old and weary... my taste questionable..which is why I post here for general feedback. Consensus is that they're too bright and I can tone that back, thank you.

Now, not to sound racially insensitive or anything....but I thought there was a high premium on light, smooth, almost pastel skin-tone among Asian and Asian-American women in this kind of glammy/beauty/modelly type stuff...I heard that light-light skin rendering was highly desirable from a San Diego-area wedding guy I used to know from another forum...I mean...is this a general concept that's outdated or which has no basis in fact? What do the ladies you photograph think?

One other suggestion Trev; consider revising the backgrounds since the bright white areas, especially in the first two, really grab the eye.

I was shooting with friends and had no choice on the backgrounds, there were 100% jump in and get a shot. Yes, I usually prefer darker BG.

Derrel, yes, lighter skin is generally preferred.

#2 I dropped exposure .3 stops and added a little warmth. Better?

The 3rd one works best for me, although her eye makeup could use a little work. The second shot has a srs color problem: the lower half of her face to the bottom of her neck is orange. There's a bit of that going on in the last shot too, but it's less noticeable because the rest of her face matches.

SRS? Man you all see things I never see. Yes her makeup was screwey and I didn't notice until my wife pointed it out. One advantage of knowing makeup ... I don't have a clue.
