I didn't mean to be so brief in my last comment.
(I was getting a truly odd error message from the site every time I tried to add a comment and so after 5 or 6 tries only this seemed to upload.
It might have been a value judgement by the site on my participation but I will keep on.)

That being said, my comment was that you shot at f2.5 1/400 and iso 100.
F2.5 gives just too small a dof to hope to get the important parts of a subject in.
Shoot at iso 400, 1/200 and f 5.6 and you still have enough dof and the image will be sharper.

Took these headshots for a friend as practice... Advice would be GREAT, I was happy with them, but I know they could use improvement,
specifically his eyes are frequently underexposed I think. Not sure how to get the detail in the eyes better.

His eyes narrow to very small slits when he smiles big or laughs, as do many peoples' eyes. So...he has simply GOT to have a light source shining onto his face. As far as a kid that doesn't want to have his picture taken...ummm...generally I have used psychology to outwit the little tykes. A bag of prizes, trinkets, or candy treats, as well as pirate games, a monkey that lives INSIDE the lens, and a Transformer Camera with pop-up flash are all worthwhile ruses that most little kids will fall for. You can also use the camera as a "machine gun", which is kind of fun. Whatever the kid's into. ALso, try and get closer to the child's eye level. Shooting downward, from above the kid's head makes them appear insignificant.
