Heat haze?

Hi guys, I am a generally new at shooting (I've been doing it for 7+ months now) and this may seem like a stupid question to a lot of you, but I took a couple landscape type photos today and they seem to be cartoony? (sorry don't know how to describe it) I looked it up a bit and they mentioned heat haze or overheating of equipment. I think this is likely, can you tell me what you think the issue is? I'd appreciate it, thanks.

I don't see anything unusual; it looks to me like a typical image that was shot in high, direct sun. I think the 'cartoony' you're seeing is just the high contrast that results from the brightness of the direction of sun and time of day. This image is an example of heat haze; the slightly foggy 'dull' appearance is the haze.

Heat haze will usually look like mist and make the photo look blurry, almost like it's shrouded in mist or fog to a certain extent - and you usually won't see it unless the object your photographing is a long way off. If the photo your referring to was on the main page of the site, the one of the building, it doesn't look like heat haze is your issue. Your subject (the building) is actually pretty close so I don't think heat haze is your issue. I'd have to agree with tirediron on this one, this one is more a lighting issue.

Photographers generally regard the light around sunrise and sunset as the most pleasing of the day, you may have heard this referred to as the 'Golden Hour'.
