Hi all! I started my PhotoForum account last year, but I never took the time to introduce myself to the community...my apologies :02.47-tranquillity:.

My name is Joe and I am an amateur photographer based in Los Angeles. I joined this site originally to have a specific question answered, but now I am looking to be apart of a photography community - I've been searching high and low through local groups, meetups, Flickr groups, and FaceBook groups with no luck so far.

I'm still trying to figure out what my niche is and my specific style, but all I know at this moment in time is that I love photography! I used to take photos with my parents' film camera back in the early 90s and I remember having my own at one point as well. About three years ago I bought a Canon AE-1 Program and that reignited my interest in photography. I currently use a Sony a7ii and a Sony a6000 with a few legacy lenses. So far, I know I have been enjoying taking photos for some of my musician friends, and I have recently been thinking of getting into the world of music/concert photography.

I'm excited to continue on this journey of growth within photography, and I look forward to being an active member here on the forums!

Hello - good to hear from you.

I don't think everyone needs a specific style? Like you - I just enjoy photography ...... portraits, street, travel, sports.

It'll come with time.
You'll find one type easy and enjoyable.

Then you'll get a really bad case of GAS.

Welcome. As said above, a love for photography will go far. Looking forward to what you share with us.

Welcome! I spend half the year in LA, and am missing it from Long Island now. I think professionals need a niche, but we amateurs have the luxury of exploring many types of photography. Hence my signature, “ I got no style.” Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Hello Joe and welcome....................
Thanks Jeff!

You are right in thinking that...not everyone needs a specific style. I often have to remind myself that I don't have to stick to one thing. Thanks!

I think I had a small case of GAS earlier this year :nightmare:. It's easy to fall into especially after watching so many YouTube videos by other photographers.

Thank you, I appreciate hearing that!

I love the signature! Those are words I need to try to live by more often. Fun fact: I grew up in CT in a town on the Long Island Sound. I could see Long Island from the beach! I've been missing the New England seasons lately - LA is starting to feel like being in a casino.

Hi from a former Angeleno of 30+ years. I'm now living in the Pacific NW and appreciating the different types of natural light we have up here, i.e., learning how to shoot on our many overcast days.

Hey danbob6! Is there anything that you are particularly interested in shooting? Especially on those overcast days? I wish we would get a some variation in our weather to add different moods to my photos.

With the possible exception of macro photography (as I don't currently have a macro lens), I'm interested in most types of photography. When I was visiting LA recently I kept hoping for a bit of cloud cover in order to avoid having to deal with the challenge of clear, cloudless skies. Oh well, there's always the golden hours!
