I've done so much research but I still feel lost. I've always wanted a nice camera and I've finally decided to treat myself to one, rather than continuing to buy $75 "throw-away" PnS cameras every year.
There are a TON of really good sale prices right now. I'm also open to buying a refurb from the likes of Adorama etc. My max price is about $250 but I'd like to keep it around $200. I've seen a lot of advertised sales for $100 off MSRP so when making suggestions please keep in mind that many cameras outside my budget may actually be obtainable.
I'll mostly be shooting my kids - which means sports, candid shots both inside and out, low lighting and bright sun (but mostly those funny Kodak moments that happen indoors with less than optimal light). I'm tired of my shots coming out with bright white faces and black backgrounds, or altogether grainy shots. So I guess the biggest thing I'm looking for is to get good shots indoors. Oh, and something with a quick response time for powering on, being ready to shoot and the time it takes from pushing the button to when the picture actually takes...and the time between two shots.
So yeah, something quick that can take good indoor shots for $250 or less (assuming it's on sale or a refurb).
I think I like the Nikon Coolpix L120. I looked through about 50 sample shots from real people and they look really nice. Adorama has a refurb for ~$200. I like that it doesn't require manually changing the various settings to achieve great shots. The long distance zoom is nice but not entirely necessary. It has up to 6400 ISO - which is better than many I've considered though I can't remember why :blushing:.
My first consideration was the Canon Powershot SX130 or SX150 (the SX150 is on sale this week for $150 at Walmart). I liked a lot about it. It seems to have a lot of helpful features. The sample shots I looked at weren't as nice as the Nikon but there weren't nearly as many and I think it's safe to assume there's a good reason why the Nikon is so much more expensive. But when I read the reviews on Amazon I learned that it has a horrible battery life...one set of AAs can run out in less than an hour. One person said they shot about 30 minutes of video and went thru a fresh set of batteries.
I've looked at others but these two stuck out to me for some reason. I don't know enough about what I'm looking at to know what's a good value or product, though. And getting the most bang for my buck is important obviously, since my budget is comparatively low.
Advice would be greatly appreciated!!
