hey guys,

i need some help with photoshop effects. everything i know how to do up until this point is kind of the amateurs way. so i was wondering if i could get some help on how to do the effects below professionally.

ive compiled a list of pictures to help assist in explaining what i am trying to achieve

1- faded effect

http://i.imgur.com/6SlPo.png

are there any pre-made filters that can achieve this on photoshop? i know there are a ton of one click filters built in for photo editing apps on the iphone and ipad but id like to replicate this on desktop.

2.) bordering frames

http://i.imgur.com/cjISo.jpg

how would i easily create subtle borders around my photos like the one shown above? i know that i can create a simple border by going to image>>canvas size & then selecting size & color, but the border shown in the image above is not as simple.

3.) dressing up fonts with font frames?

http://i.imgur.com/8RiTa.png

not sure if im using the correct terminology but notice on the photos above the lines used to "frame" the font. how do i create this in photoshop?
notice how its not just a simple line it has a bit of a shape to it.

you can also see it in effect to a less ornate extent here

4.) creating precise shapes & shadows

http://i.imgur.com/80Smz.png

note the above picture the emblem has a shadow, how do i do this? also note the precision of the rectangle shapes. the way i would do this would be:
-haphazardly creating a new image
-then using the paint bucket tool to fill it black (or blue or red)
-then move that image onto the background image
- then adjust the opacity so its kind of see through
- then replicate the layer and bring in the top and bottom

this seems to me very amateur and not how professionals do it though and id like to know how to do this professionally

5.) applying your pre-made graphics to bulk images.

say for example i now know how to create unique bordering frames , how would i then apply this bordering frame to all the pictures i have?

lastly
6.) misc stamps, digital knick knacks & photoshop brushes

http://rlv.zcache.com/fleur_de_lis_photosculpture-p153868189343631958bf5e7_400.jpg

this would be fine except id like to be able to change the color, so the best thing i should be using is a photoshop brush right?
does anybody know of any good resources where i might be able to obtain unique photoshop brushes to create symbols and other digital knick knacks that can dress up your fonts, things like the symbols above or the font frame i talked about earlier?

thanks

If those are not your photographs, or if you do not have copyright to them, then you cannot post them. It is against forum rules and you can only post links to them.

You can't post images you don't own the copyright to. You can post links, but not the images themselves. Sorry!

Buy a few books on Photoshop. You have asked some incredibly hard to answer questions here. It's something you have to learn how to do and we could type here for WEEKS to try to explain the effects in those and what you are wanting to do.
youtube and Adobe TV are great resources on photoshop

How about reading, and heeding, this.

Note especially:

You must be new here. That's not how the rules work.

Scott! We agree on so many things! ;)

Like some posts above said: It's best to read up and learn Photoshop.
This way you will understand how effects work and you will be able to create your own

That being said, some of these effects are rather basic so I could give explaining them a shot.

I'm not entirely sure what you are trying to achieve here, however I'm guessing you mean the grayish sand-like effect that is in front of the leopard.
Possibly the easiest way to achieve an effect like this is using a grunge brush.
Just search a few nice looking brushes on deviant art, I believe most of them are free for personal use: Browsing deviantART.

Once you've found some nice brushes you need to load them into Photoshop:
How to Add Photoshop Brushes

When loaded in Photoshop just go nuts with them.
You're probably going to want to use a white or light-gray color for this particular effect, but you can use other colors for different effects.

Make sure you're working on a new empty layer when you're brushing, this way you can easily undo the effect or you can lower the opacity slightly (something you'll probably like):

The answer to this is probably a lot easier than you think.
A lot of complicated looking effects can be done easily using a few tricks, this one is no different.

First step, create a new empty layer on top of everything.
Make sure you've got a selection tool active (something like the rectangular marquee tool).
Select all (ctrl+A), right click in your selection and choose 'Stroke'.
Now add a stroke of say 15 pixels (location: inside).

By now you're probably going to say: This isn't the border I wanted, this is a very simple one!
I know, don't worry. This is where the trickery comes into play.

Hold ctrl and click layer you are working on. You will now have a selection of the stroke you just made.
Hit delete to remove the simple stroke, but make sure you keep your selection!
Hit ctrl+shift+I to invert your selection. Now add a stroke again and be amazed! :D

You can change the layer opacity to make it see-through like your example.

In your toolbar (the one with the move tool, selection tools and brush tools) search the shape tool (it's probably the rectangular tool).
Right click it to see a line tool.

The easiest way to work with this is probably by using it on the 'Fill pixels' option which is found right below the normal menus (File, Edit, Image, etc.)
You can hold shift while using this tool to make sure you get straight lines.

This is really easy as long as the shape is on a separate layer.
Depending on the situation you're going to have to get that shape on it's own layer.
Once you're there simply add a drop shadow:

This can be tricky to understand but you could try it sometime.
You're going to need to create an action in Photoshop.

This way you can do it in one click.
There's also a way to do it with bulk but for starters just try this.

Search deviant art. It's probably the easiest way.
Try google too, although there's a lot of trash there too. :p
Brushes are easy in this case but shapes are better as they can be resized without quality loss.
You can also color shapes differently if you want to.
There are several ways, but one of the easiest to understand is probably just the color overlay:

Good luck. :)
