Help! Its for my Mom

thank you for allowing me to post on this board. i am new, so if this is in the wrong spot, mods, please move accordingly.

i am looking for a new digital camera for my mom, she is not looking to be a profession photog, but wants something nice and easy.

not really looking to spend over $1,000. Image stabilization, ease of use, ease of pulling the pics off the camera and onto the computer are the bigger features she is looking for.

these will mainly be outdoor shots, golfing, her beach patrol, etc. and the more advanced features would just me more confusing.

Why not surprise her with a DSLR? Get an "entry level" Nikon or Canon, and spend the rest of your budget on a speedlight or a decent tripod, or some other juicy piece. If she starts out using mainly the "green auto" function, so what? If she is anything like my mom, she will eventually move on to other modes. She will love it (and you).

Remember, Mom will quickly need more hard drive or cloud space to store all of these high megapixel images.

That may not be true... My mom would be frustrated if I were to get her a DSLR. She struggles to use mine, even on full auto. She also complains about weight/size. OP's mom may be happier with a higher end point and shoot. That would provide ease of use, image stabilization and be easily moved to the computer to be printed, posted online or whatever else.

Nikon A, Nikon 1 series, Sony Nex series, Olympus M4/3 all would seem to fit her needs.

Personally I would not recommend anything with interchangeable lenses since that does tend to complicate things a bit. I'd recommend a high-end bridge camera personally.

I would suggest a Bridge Camera... will let her shoot any way she wants... full auto / program, or do it herself if she chooses to. Like a Nikon P510 or a Canon SX40 or SX50.

Get her the Canon G15

My wife is so gifted in taking pictures but lack the patience to learn how to use a camera outside the auto mode so I bought her the Canon G15 and she loves it, this camera has an awsome lens and if you want you can use it just like a DSLR as it has all the features a DSLR does but with a fixed lens.

I use it as my second body camera if we go outside for a quick trip and we both had tons of fun with it.
