Help me choose a camera?

I'm deciding if I should get a Nikon d600 or Canon 6d. I was leaning towards the Canon side, as I currently have a T3i and I like it, but I'm not sure on what I should get.

I've had my T3i for 4 months and rarely touched it, but want to upgrade and get more into photography. I know a lot of people are gonna say I should keep practicing with the T3i, but ehh.

Also if I get the Canon would the 17-40mm f/4L and 50mm f/1.4 be good choices for lenses?

Let me guess, you read it on the internet and you can't put anything on the internet that isn't true.

I have met one guy who has t4i about a year, and he doesn't know anything about exposure triangle and DOF. He wanted an upgrade with a LCD panel.

There's a lot of stupidity floating around the interwebs.

The T3i is plenty capable. If a lens is good it'll be good on the T3i. Granted some lenses that are optimized for an ultra wide field of view on FF aren't the best choice for a crop body, but that's only because there are better crop specific choices available.

If you hardly used it, but you think you might use a new camera more, I'd suggest proving it to yourself by using the t3i more before you dump the money on another camera. New gear won't increase your love of photography, it only increases your love of new gear. You'll find yourself constantly looking for something new to buy just to have an excuse to take pictures, because you aren't motivated to shoot without new gear to play with. Spend some time with what you have to find your vision, your style, and your overall preferences, then you won't have to ask random strangers on the internet what to buy because you'll know what you need to achieve your vision.

I will not get into the keep or dont keep the T3i, thats your call.
As for which camera to get 6D or D600

Well first the D600 was replaced by the Nikon D610 so the question should be 6D vs D610

Both excellent cameras but I believe the Nikon D610 overall is a more belanced camera and thats the one I would get.
Better AF system, better dynamic range.
The only advantage the 6D has over the D610 is a slight advantage in low light but nothing that is a deal breaker.

In any case both cameras are good and you cant go wrong with either.

As far as I know, most, if not all full frame lenses work perfectly on dx bodies. I'd suggest get full frame lenses and use the t3i for now and switch to a FF when you have the money. Having said that I don't have any practical knowledge on DSLRs, so take my advice with a pinch of salt.

I was planning to pick up the 50mm 1.4 and 17-40mm 4 lenses, would those be good with the t3i?

I wanted something I could use for portraits and landscape rather than using the kit lens or 55-250.

prob be just as happy with the much cheaper 50mm f/1.8 usual most portraits are shot from f/2 - f/4
