What's new

help me decide..

For your low light/dingy bar band shots you may want to take a look at this:

Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Nikon 583306 B&H

I used to have one with a D90 and found it very sharp and great in low light.

As far as your interest in the Sigma 24-105 Art - I now use that with a D750 and absolutely love it. It works out to be a few dollars more than the Nikon 24-120 but I think it is worth it.

Yes, it is definitely smaller than say, a 150-600mm zoom! But dat lens speed-- f/1.8 in a ZOOM!!!! Wow, that would be nice to have!

yeah Darrel, that lens is super nice to have but there is one major issue with it. its not for full frame.. for us crop sensor folks if you are good with buying a lens with the focal length of 18-35mm well you cant go wrong.. its does not seem to matter if your wide open or you stop down a bit.. or what focal length you at. the photos come out great now matter what..

due to the fact that i already have a 18-35mm 1.8 buying a 17-50mm 2.8 seems kind of silly to me. its too close to the same focal length and wont give me anything on the longer range of the zoom that 24-105 does seem really nice.. that would be perfect if it worked well enough in low light with my d7200..

I didn't pay enough attention about your other lenses and missed your 18-35 1.8 - that would make the 17-50 a little redundant.

As far as the 24-105, it's a great lens on the 750 - I'm not sure how it would work out on the 7200.

thats kind of what i am worried about. depending on the lighting some times i can get a great photo with 10k iso.. but other times even like 4k iso is full of noise.. it just depends on how bad the bad lighting is lol....

i was kind of leaning towards that new 50-100mm f/1.8 crop sensor lens they are coming out with but i think i would like it to have image stabilization since its got a longer focal length.... since its 1.8 i am not 100% sure if i would need the IS or not.. i found one review that posted a bunch of photos taken with that lens and they look excellent.. its still a pre order item

i have been thining about it and i am thinking one of those lenses would be the most beneficial. maybe some day pick up a 70-200 but i think for now i want something in the 50mm-100mm range or something along those lines that will do ok in low light... with a 70-200 on a crop sensor it may be too much zoom for the indoor type of shooting i want to do.. but it would be nice to have at some point..

i have viewed lots of photos on that 24-105 most were on a D8XX or a D750 and the photos were beautiful even in low light. saw quite a few live music photos or ballet or some sort of dance photos all taken in a dark room. that lens looks killer on the full frame cameras. some of them the ISO was pretty low like in the 400 range.. some of them it was up around iso 6400
so i dont know..

i am gonna go play with one of my lenses take shots at 1.8, 2.8 and f4 in a low light bar situation and see how they turn out.. that way i should get a idea of the lens aperture i am gonna need.
