Help me pick a new lense!

I have a budget of up to $250 to buy a new lense for my D70, I am looking to see what you guys recommend and then go from there to choose.

Can you tell us what are you planning to use the lens for? i.e. taking landscape photos? Portrait? Macros stuff like bugs? or Telephotos type such as going to the zoo? .......

Thats the thing I can't really decide which I prefer, I love macros, and I enjoy landscapes and portraits. Which would be the most practical?

That's a pretty difficult range for landscape on a crop body, whereas the long end of an 18-50 will get some decent portraits but could be a bit longer. Depends on what OP wants more.
