Help on deciding on a new lens.

For sports you want telephoto or zoom telephoto (something like 70-200 or 70-300) but to get a fast lens like that you'll need to spend a lot more than $500. For landscapes, you might want to go ultra wide. I also shoot Nikon and I see this lens in my near future:
Tokina 11-16mm
