Ok I am interested in a new decent zoom lens and was wondering which of these would be better for the price and long run.

I have that Canon lens and I've heard that the Tamron stacks up well (considering the price).

Either one is about as cheap as it gets for a zoom lens...so you can't expect it to be of great quality. They can work well enough, especially if the shooting conditions are favorable (sunny daylight).

In the long run, I might suggest saving up for a better quality lens...but that's partially because I'm a gear head. For many people, these would be good enough...as long as it's used in good conditions.

A better quality option might be the 70-300mm IS, or any of the 70-200mm options.
