Help!

Does anyone know what this is? I took off my lens and this was loose, not attached to anything at all. As far as I know, the camera hasn't been dropped (I haven't dropped it or jarred it but it's not locked up and who knows who was messing with it). It doesn't look broken off but I don't even know what it is or where it came from.
