Hicks lake, Harrison B.C.

The wifey and I went to Hicks lake in Harrison for a day trip Saturday. We took the B.B.Q. and the dog. She had a blast in the water all day. The weather was beautiful. Here are a couple photos to get started.
I'm not usually a fan of portrait style photos but it seems to work for this image better. Any thoughts?

Hi Conk: I'm not sure what you mean when you say "portrait style" photos....this looks like a landscape style to me. Do you mean, a picture-postcard type image? If so, I don't know that there is anything you can do about it in this instance: the place is gorgeous - picture-postcard perfect!

I might like the vertical as opposed to the horizontal composition. But they are both lovely images of what looks like a beautiful place. Very nice. :thumbup:

Thank you Terri. What I meant was vertical/horizontal. I always refer to vertical shots as portrait style and horizontal as landscape but you are right. Thanks again Terri.

cool shots Conk, and what a sight! I like the horizontal version best, as the contrast of the mountian seems to work better., the Portrait style looks good too, it's depending on the application, they both are fine shots, it comes down to what suits you best.

Beautiful location. Where is Harrison? I'm somewhat familiar with BC but I can't think of where that is. Where is Cloverdale if you don't mind my asking?

Nice composition, I think the portrait mode works better in this instance.

I'm still not sure about the two versions.
In the vertical mode, the mountain seems more "looming", if that is a word you can use here. That's because the focal length is different, it's not only the fact that the photo is vertical.
Personally, I'd have darkened both pics just a bit and added SOME more contrast (but I am sure wouldn't have done so while I still had my old, much darker screen).

Thanks for the feedback all. I agree with needing something Lafoto. It does seem to be lacking but it is just quite green.
Big Mike... Harrison hot Springs are east of Mission. Cloverdale is a suburb of Surrey.
