I hate being in front of the camera as well, so I understand that this is a hard picture for you, but it really does look good and I think it's effective in getting your meaning across, even without the context of the blog. Good job!

Isn't it interesting-funny-sad that my best portrait is a self portrait?
I'm not talking about this one posted here. Look at my avatar.
I don't have many photos with me being on them, and none of them are decent enough to call them successful at any means. I took this avatar-selfie for this forum. It was a few minutes job and it turned down that it was the best portrait I have of me, actually.

So, I have to do something if I want my children to remember what I was like when they grow up

why not show that you need silence... I am not sure that one finger in your ear portrays that...
instead of a self portrait why not cast your shadow of you holding both hands over your ears while standing over a radio on the pavement? it would still include your self... but in an inpersonal way

I'm limited with the time available and places I can go to shoot these days. I work full time, have 2 children (1.5 and 3 years old) and just small amount of time on weekends when I can take pictures, in home, while my children sleeping Good thing is that I have a nice empty room for self portraits.
I'm also not that creative to have bunch of ideas right away...but as I said I decided to take selfies often to work on my creativity and to became more comfortable in front of the camera.
I'll definitely try your suggestion with shadow but slightly adjusted according to my limitations. Instead of pavement it could be the room, instead of radio... omg I don't have a radio, nor CD player! got to find some old radio somewhere...
I have, in my house, a guitar, tam tam drum, some fifes. Those present sounds that are pleasing to me so I have to think and do a lot.

This all is sort of a big challenge for me and thank you for giving me ideas! It's a lot easier if someone else is the subject.
