Hey guys. I just recently had to start my camera kit from scratch (had last one stolen). I bought a T1i with a 17-85mm Canon lens. It appears that I will be moving [back] to the Middle East, where there is certainly a lot of sun. In addition, I will be photographing a lot of light colors (sand, light rock, etc). Does anyone have any suggestions for this type of photography? More than anything I'm trying to figure out if there are any filters (or other accessories) I should invest in.

I'm assuming that trial and error is the only way to get the right technique, but I don't want to get over there and regret not having bought something beforehand.

Here are 2 pictures (snapshots) I took of the town I will most likely be living in. You can see how all of the buildings are very light.

Any advice is much appreciated.

A circular polarizer would be a possible choice that could help you get richer colors and more-saturated sky colors. Something in the medium-price category, like a multi-coated Hoya circular polarizer for the 17-85mm lens you have. Stay away from the really low-cost no-name brands.

So I'm about to order the filter and hood. Is there a visible difference between the multi coated glass polarizer and the (moose) warm polarizer? The price difference is negligible ($93 vs. $87). There is also the basic circular polarizer for $58. All are Hoya brand.

You just need a Hoya HMC Circular Polariser
