Photos NOT OK to edit
Hello, my name is Chris. I am a 29 year old accounting major (thank God for second chances) who acts as an assistant to Kendra Paige (my fiance) in South Florida. Kendra started using assistants about a year ago and decided to open up an in house studio in our home. She primarily likes to work in fashion but has done some work for clients and is even starting to do commercial work. Over the past year or so I've been on at least a dozen shoots as her assistant and I'm surprised to find that I really enjoy it. In fact my personality is almost tailored to be an assistant!

A few days ago we worked with a agency model who had toured several countries, we asked her what it was like on set at some of her other shoots and her answer got me thinking about how I wanted to improve as an assistant. Mind you, I have no interest in the limelight as a photographer and while I have worked with the camera and even taken a shot or two on my own camera it's not really my thing. I like to be a part of the background, it suits me well. So I went out and put together my own assisting kit of basic supplies and now I want to learn to improve my skills even further.

I don't have the artistic talent to do any photo editing but I think I could learn lighting. I've read the strobist and a few other articles on the subject but they seem to be tailored more towards lighting from a photographers perspective (which means they include all kinds of info that goes way over my head). I've heard about a more mathematical style of lighting and that sounds appealing to me but I don't even know where to begin. Plus I'd love to get any tips I could on assisting in general.

So that's why I decided to join a forum. Thanks for reading,

Chris
