Horse Racing

Please comment, tell me if I did anything wrong and ways to get better, Racing is a real passion of mine and I'm planing on going to the Photography Studies College here in Melbourne, need more for a folio but its a great time, spring, the big races are starting and I'll be at the races for 40 out of the next 60 days.

Nice colours in general, great sharpness and focus in the second pic, nice B&W portrait effect in the 3rd. First pic could have been cropped to bring the action closer. What equipment did you use, were you at maximum zoom for that shot?

I don't know what anyone else thinks about this b/c I am not a pro by any means, but this is how I would crop the second pic, to bring the subject forward more so that is what you focus on, getting rid of distractions such as the other horses tail or the multiple pillars in the background :
