Points to think about for the future are
a) too bright backgrounds (bits of white sky that distracts from his face)
b) squinting eyes
and maybe
c) bored expression
I don't know what you meant to express with these (or he did), but he looks like he's uncomfortable in the situation (all throughout the photos).

try photographing the gentleman while he's "at work" — making or building something, playing guitar, whatever. put him at ease and take random photos while he ignores you. then tell him to stay relaxed and look at you. take his picture quickly before he becomes too self-conscious. that might work.
