Inserting a link produces rather a minimally visible change in the text which is underlined in the editor but not in the actual post.
(note that the word 'text' in the line above is an actual link)

It seems that a minimal change in the preferences for the site could produce a much more visible link.
Or if you don't like bold, you could change the color to one that is a more obvious link

My preference would be a real change in color and style to something like this.
 
I always create links that are blue and underlined.
 
I installed Andy's style thingie, now I need to learn a little CSS to tweak some colors.

But that still doesn't solve the issue for the vast everybody else.

IMO, it is the responsibility of the owners to help with stuff like this and not expect users to do by hand what can be done easily by code.

I would rather see them make it easier to post photos first, instead of the hoops one must go through with the current system. After all, this IS a photography forum. Most other forums I haunt just ask for the URL of the image and nothing more. None of this click this tab, then choose this option, then uncheck this box.....:er:
