How Much Noise Reduction Is To Much

Experimenting with higher ISO shot again. 800 ISO, 1/500, f/10.0, hand held. Attempting to lessen the impact of my less than stable hands. I bumped the noise reduction up to 48 in LR, but could probably use some more. Which bears the question, are there limitations?? Any rules of thumb??? I know the leash is in the way, but she's on restricted activity from a medical treatment.

I use up to 60 noise reduction at times but not normaly any more then that

Depends on the noise level of the shot itself, and on the subject matter. For things that have a lot of important high-frequency detail, too much NR can spoil the shot and make things look weird.I prefer the feeling of more detail, even if it means a bit of noise, rather than no noise whatsoever, and a visible lack of detail.

To me raising the noise reduction, then increasing sharpening seems counterproductive, but I see some wonderfully sharp images by some on here with ISO's in the 800+ and sharp as a tack. What am I missing?

Iso 800 is not that high of iso compared to when i have had to push my iso to 6400 for some bird shots

I am no expert but different sensors have different or acceptable noise levels. I can shoot at much higher ISO with acceptable (to me) noise with my Fuji than I could with Nikon APC. Same size sensor but different technology. I see high ISO on full frame to be acceptable at higher levels. I notice different types of lights, like in some gyms have ugly noise as opposed to outdoors. I have also seen ugly noise on a PC screen but when printed, it wasn't noticeable.

@jcdeboever I know a lot of your shots of late have been SOOC JPEGS, with the noise being managed by the camera. Have you tried any Raw files yet with the Fuji?

FWIW I don't see any noise issues with the photo you posted. I also don't see any evidence of overuse of NR. The photo looks fine.

A few, not digging the software. However, noise has not been an issue. I see it in some but doesn't bother me.

I stop worrying about noise. At ISO 800, it is very hard to see the noise unless you zoom in or crop too much portion off.

I don't know. I just despise editing. I am trying Alien Skin Exposure now. It is the best I have tried so far. I am not impressed with LR at all, I don't get all the hype about it. I hate Windows, probably gonna throw the thing out a window. Windows 10 is the worst OS I have ever used, what a stinking pile of poo poo for an OS. I have been taking a lot less images now as well because of keeper rate. I just convert them in the camera because it's convenient.
